When a backflow incense cone is lit atop the burner, the cooler, heavier smoke is channeled through a tunnel or tube within the burner. This allows the smoke to flow downward rather than rising, creating a mesmerizing cascading effect.
To achieve the downward flow of smoke, you should use backflow-specific incense cones. Regular incense cones will produce upward-rising smoke and won’t provide the desired waterfall effect.
Regularly clean the tunnel/tube with a thin brush to ensure smooth smoke flow. Wipe the outer surfaces with a damp cloth, and dry thoroughly to prevent any residue build-up.
As with any open flame, you should never leave it unattended. Always ensure the incense has fully extinguished before leaving the area.
